Starting a 501(c)(3) charitable organization is not an easy task. While Tennessee Nonprofit Network no longer provides support for startup organizations, we do have some tips below for your consideration.
Have I identified a specific need in the community that isn’t being addressed by another organization?
Am I the right person (or group of individuals) to be starting this?
Do I have what it takes to start and lead a nonprofit?
Do I know people and organizations who will support my nonprofit with money and time?
Is a 501(c)(3) the most appropriate structure for this work?
Once you’ve determined that starting a 501(c)(3) charitable organization is the right step for you and your community, download our checklist to guide you through the necessary steps to establish your nonprofit.
