So you want to start a nonprofit?

Starting a 501(c)(3) charitable organization is not an easy task. While Tennessee Nonprofit Network no longer provides support for startup organizations, we do have some tips below for your consideration.

Questions to Ask Before Starting a Nonprofit

Have I identified a specific need in the community that isn’t being addressed by another organization?

Am I the right person (or group of individuals) to be starting this?

Do I have what it takes to start and lead a nonprofit?

Do I know people and organizations who will support my nonprofit with money and time?

Is a 501(c)(3) the most appropriate structure for this work?
