The first session of the 114th Tennessee General Assembly is expected to pass the annual budget this week and adjourn for the year a few days after the Easter holiday. The House Finance, Ways, and Means Subcommittee is scheduled to consider the budget on Monday, and the Senate Finance, Ways, and Means Committee is scheduled to consider it on Tuesday. The House has stated that it plans to put the budget on the floor on Wednesday and the Senate plans for full consideration on Thursday.
Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson of Franklin told Republicans colleagues in a caucus meeting on Wednesday that “good conversations” have been held with the House over the details of the annual spending plan.
This year’s spending plan totals nearly $60 billion. Gov. Bill Lee unveiled his budget amendment late last month that includes nearly $500 million in additional capital spending and dozens of smaller spending items to fund certain bills and direct appropriations to organizations across the state. The legislature will have the final say next week.
When session adjourns, we will provide a legislative and budget recap for your review.
