Tennessee Nonprofit Compensation Survey Report Now Available

Tennessee Nonprofit Network is thrilled to announce the launch of a vital new resource for our sector: the Tennessee Nonprofit Compensation Survey Report! Understanding appropriate compensation and benefits is paramount for effective nonprofit leadership and strong governance. This comprehensive report, a collaborative effort between Tennessee Nonprofit Network and the esteemed Sycamore Institute, launched in late 2024 and is now available to empower your organization.

For too long, Tennessee’s nonprofits have navigated the complexities of compensation without sector-specific data. While the Bureau of Labor Statistics provides valuable insights into the broader economy, it does not currently track nonprofit compensation as a distinct category. This information gap has made it challenging for nonprofit leaders and boards to benchmark salaries and benefits, hindering their ability to attract and retain the dedicated professionals who drive our missions forward.

This is where the Tennessee Nonprofit Compensation Survey Report steps in. By providing a detailed analysis of compensation and benefits within our state’s nonprofit sector, this report offers invaluable insights to inform your strategic decision-making.

Why Does Understanding Nonprofit Compensation Matter?

In today’s competitive landscape, nonprofits are not only striving to achieve their missions but also competing with the private and public sectors for talented individuals. Offering fair and competitive compensation and benefits packages is crucial for:

  • Attracting Top Talent: To achieve ambitious goals, nonprofits need skilled and passionate staff. Competitive compensation helps you stand out and recruit the best candidates.
  • Retaining Dedicated Professionals: Investing in your team through fair compensation fosters loyalty and reduces costly turnover, ensuring continuity and expertise within your organization.
  • Ensuring Equity and Fairness: Understanding compensation benchmarks helps ensure that your pay scales are equitable and reflect the value and responsibilities of each role.
  • Strengthening Organizational Capacity: When staff feel valued and fairly compensated, they are more engaged, productive, and committed to the organization’s mission.
  • Promoting Transparency and Trust: Clear compensation practices build trust with staff, donors, and the community.
